State Sponsorship ACT

The ACT has 1000 places for 190 Visa Applicants and 800 places for 491 Visa Applicants.

There is a processing fee of $300 (except Doctorate Stream).

Residence Requirements

Canberra Residents

  • 190 Nomination – Living and Working in Canberra for at least 6 months.
  • 491 Nomination – Living and Working in Canberra for at least 3 months.

Overseas Residents

  • 190 Nomination – 3 years work experience in your nominated occupation.
  • 491 Nomination – 1 year work experience in your nominatted occupation.

190 Nomination Criteria (Canberra Residents)

  • 2 Year Commitment to living in Canberra.
  • Reside in Canberra (or within 30 minutes) for 6 months at time of application and until offered.
  • Work for 26 in last 30 months, at least 30 hrs per week, earning at least the award. Volunteer work doesn’t count. No working online or WFH, if employer is Interstate.
  • Occupation on the ACT Critical Skills List
  • Self Employment allowed if you earn more than $1000/wk.
  • Small Business possible.
  • English is IELTS 7 or 8, unless Chef, or ANZSCO Skill Lecel 3-5.
  • Spouse must also meet a residence requirement (live in Canberra or Overseas).

190 Nomination Criteria (Overseas Applicants)

  • 2 Year Commitment to living in Canberra.
  • Occupation on the ACT Critical Skills List
  • Have 3 in last 5 years overseas work experience in your nominated occupation.
  • English is IELTS 7 or 8, unless Chef, or ANZSCO Skill Lecel 3-5.
  • Spouse must also meet a residence requirement (live in Canberra or Overseas).
  • Dont currently hold an Australian visa, except a tourist visa.
  • Have lived overseas for at least 12 months.
  • Settlement Funds

491 Nomination Criteria (Canberra Residents)

  • Reside in Canberra (or within 30 minutes) for 3 months at time of application and until offered.
  • Work for 13 out of 15 weeks, at least 15 hrs per week, earning at least the award. Volunteer work doesn’t count. No working online or WFH, if employer is Interstate.
  • Occupation on the ACT Critical Skills List
  • Self Employment allowed if you earn more than $520/wk.
  • Small Business possible.
  • English is IELTS 6.0.
  • Spouse must also meet a residence requirement (live in Canberra or Overseas).

491 Nomination Criteria (Overseas Applicants)

  • Occupation on the ACT Critical Skills List
  • Have 1 year overseas work experience in your nominated occupation.
  • English is IELTS 6
  • Spouse must also meet a residence requirement (live in Canberra or Overseas).
  • Dont currently hold an Australian visa, except a tourist visa.
  • Have lived overseas for at least 12 months.
  • Settlement Funds

Doctorate Streamlined Application

If you completed a Masters (Research) or pHD) from a Canberra Universit and live in Canberra or live interstate or overseas and completed your MR/pHD within the last 2 years. Procesing time is 1 week and the application is FREE
