Both the Visa Applicant and the Sponsor should create a Personal Statement. This should be signed as a Statutory Declaration. This document should be 2-3 pages long.
State that “you have a mutual commitment with your spouse or de facto partner to the exclusion of all others” and “that your relationship is genuine and continuing”.
State that you live together (specify the address) or if you are temporarily living apart specify the reason why and when you expect to be living together permanently and where that will be. The common reasons for living apart are
- An existing legal agreement, such as waiting for a residential lease to expire.
- Work/Study Commitments, waiting for a transfer interstate or study to complete.
- No Visa, unable to live together until a visa is granted.
State that “you are not related by family”. Note that relationships with cousins is allowed.
You also need paragraphs talking about the following:
- how, when and where you first met
- how the relationship developed
- when you moved in together, got engaged or married
- what you do together
- time you spent apart
- significant events in the relationship
- your plans for the future.
Note: Please follow all Partner Visa Instructions and where appropriate add statements to this document. Before signing the document, send both visa applicant and sponsor draft documents to the Migration Agent.
